CIGI’s African Initiative hosted the African Initiative Congress on Climate Change on the shores of Lake Victoria in Kampala, Uganda from November 1 to 4, 2009 at the Munyonyo Speke Resort and Conference Centre. The African Initiative Congress on Climate Change initiated the first-of-its-kind nation-wide dialogue among stakeholders on climate change in order to build on the existing knowledge base articulated in the Ugandan government’s official, National Adaptation Programme of Action (NAPA). These discussions served as a platform for the implementation of adaptation and mitigation strategies to effectively alleviate the impacts of climate change in Uganda. It is anticipated that the guidelines developed in Uganda will serve as a template for other African countries in developing tailored programmes of action to address the impacts of climate change.
