All over the world, the public is calling for changes in policy, product and practice in the technology market to reduce the harms of misinformation, hate speech, conspiracy and polarization amplified on social media, as well as for protection of core values of free expression. The Centre for International Governance Innovation has joined with Apolitical and RESET to curate, as a pilot, a two-month virtual learning exchange for legislative staff and civil servants from around the world who are working to address platform governance and online harms. These highly interactive sessions, supported by leading experts, will enable participants to discuss pressing challenges, gain a deeper understanding of policy-level solutions and form deeper relationships with peers for future collaborations.

This first session on June 17 will explore current issues in online harms and platform governance. Confirmed speakers include:

  • Daniel Braun, Deputy Head of Cabinet, Justice, Consumers & Gender Equality at the European Commission;
  • Joan Donovan, Director of the Technology and Social Change Project, Shorenstein Center, Harvard University; and
  • Davey Alba, Technology Reporter at The New York Times.

This event is by invitation only. If you are interested in learning more, please contact us at [email protected].
