The Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program and the Centre for International Governance Innovation are partnering to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the United Nations by convening think tanks from around the world for a virtual global gathering of think tank leaders, policy makers and intergovernmental organizations.

Given the truly unprecedented and global nature of the challenges currently confronting policy makers, we have also agreed to create a number of working groups that will continue throughout the year. Later this month, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) is expected to adopt the following declaration: Through reinvigorated global action and by building on the progress achieved in the last 75 years, we are determined to ensure the future we want. To achieve this, we will mobilize resources, strengthen our efforts and show unprecedented political will and leadership. We will work together with partners to strengthen coordination and global governance for the common future of present and coming generations.

The UNGA will also request that the Secretary-General report back before the end of its 75th session with recommendations to advance a common agenda that can better respond to current and future challenges.

Our hope is that think tanks from around the world will come together in the working groups to provide innovative ideas and specific suggestions for the Secretary-General on how to operationalize these commitments by September 2021.

We want to invite the global think tank community to join us in this important and momentous undertaking.
