As space becomes increasingly entangled with emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence, quantum computing, robotics and cyber capabilities, the international community is grappling with how best to govern these overlapping domains. Various UN efforts on security and arms control provide an important foundation, but current diplomatic discussions often remain abstract, leaving a gap between principles and practice and between technology domains.
This workshop aims to close these gaps.
CIGI is bringing together a select group of experts from the fields of space, emerging technology and governance to:
- map how emerging technologies are reshaping the space domain;
- identify governance challenges and opportunities;
- explore implications for security and deterrence strategies; and
- engage in a scenario-based exercise to generate practical policy insights.
Our objectives are to:
- translate foundational research into concrete governance recommendations;
- connect Canadian and allied perspectives to global efforts on space security; and
- contribute recommendations to national and international discussions on space security and build bridges across diplomatic processes.
A formal agenda will be shared with registrants.
The workshop has limited capacity and will be closed-door, under the CIGI Rule.
