The Future of Security Sector Reform

e-Conference Report

July 22, 2009

On May 4-8, 2009 The Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI), in cooperation with Governance Village, held an e-conference,  "The Future of Security Sector Reform." The virtual event brought together over 300 policy makers, practitioners and experts engaged with SSR from 50 countries. They assessed the record of the model of security assistance and explored its future. The lively debate emphasized both the importance of the model for peacebuilding, state building and development programs across the world, and its evolving or shifting nature. This e-Conference report outlines some of the urgent challenges that must be addressed for the SSR model to bridge the policy-practice divide and realize its core aims.
