The World Trade Organization can remain relevant despite growing anti-trade sentiments internationally, the secretariat’s top lawyer insists.
“If you just look at what it’s doing, the WTO is the only organization dealing with trade at the international level,” said Valerie Hughes, the WTO’s director of legal affairs. Hughes was in Ottawa this week for a panel on the future of global trade organized by Waterloo’s Centre for International Governance Innovation.
