The EU Cyber Direct – EU Cyber Diplomacy Initiative, the European External Action Service, Global Affairs Canada and the Centre for International Governance Innovation are pleased to host a workshop that will explore the intersection between emerging technologies and cyber policy. The goal of this workshop is to foster greater cooperation and dialogue between Canada and the European Union, while also offering recommendations for future engagement to advance mutual interests.

This discussion will focus on three key areas:

  • Emerging Technologies and Evolving Risks: What Are the Implications for Digital Societies?
  • Emerging Technologies for Defence: Navigating the Cyber Battlefield and the Future of Warfare
  • International Norms and Governance: From Rules to Technological Standard Setting

Event Speakers

Aaron Shull is the managing director and general counsel at CIGI. He is a senior legal executive and is recognized as a leading expert on complex issues at the intersection of public policy, emerging technology, cybersecurity, privacy and data protection.

Emily Laidlaw is a CIGI senior fellow, a Canada Research Chair in Cybersecurity Law and associate professor at the University of Calgary.

Neil Desai is a CIGI senior fellow and an executive in residence with the Rogers Cybersecure Catalyst.

Daniel Araya is a CIGI senior fellow, a senior partner with the World Legal Summit, and a consultant and an adviser with a special interest in artificial intelligence, technology policy and governance.
