Amid rising border control concerns in Canada, Fen Hampson, executive director of the CIGI-led World Refugee Council and director of CIGI's Global Security & Politics program, spoke to the Canadian Press about the need for a broader perspective, noting that more than 68 million people were forcibly displaced from their homes in 2017, and that Canada received just 50,000 refugees the same year.
'Uganda has over a million forcibly displaced (migrants)," said Hampson. "They’re a very poor country, with very low per capita income. We’re a very rich country and our problems should be put into perspective – they’re trivial."
