Cyberthreats, Surveillance Balloons Raise New Security Concerns
The discovery of Chinese surveillance balloons over Canada’s Arctic raised eyebrows and forced the country to reconsider military defence and securing Canadian and American interests, according to CIGI Senior Fellow Robert Mazzolin.
That and many other concerns over cyberthreats, the need for sharing cyber incidents between government agencies and the private sector, and initiatives aimed at bolstering cyber resilience led to CIGI’s high-level Waterloo Security Dialogue featuring Shelly Bruce, former chief of Canada’s Communications Security Establishment, and Chris Inglis, former US cyber director. Aaron Shull highlighted the event at the Standing Committee on National Defence.
