Though a long way from where it was in the early 2000s, Canada’s addressing of the digital divide across the country still centres much of the national effort on broadband expansion. But in a world with 5G and AI, among other disruptive technologies, there must be a stronger emphasis placed on the development of digital skills and the strengthening of digital literacy for Canadians of all ages. It’s a matter of Canada either furthering its competitive edge on the global stage, or risking falling behind.
