One year after the release of Canada’s Canada–Africa Strategy, the Centre for International Governance Innovation is hosting a conference to bring together policymakers, researchers, and practitioners to assess the strategy’s implementation in a rapidly evolving global and digital landscape. With Africa’s digital transformation reshaping governance, trade, finance, and geopolitics, the event will examine how Canada–Africa partnerships can adapt to an increasingly fragmented international order.

The event will feature a keynote on Africa’s digital transformation in a fragmented global landscape and four thematic panel sessions on:

  • Canada–Africa Strategy at One Year: Technology and Digital Governance
  • Canada–Africa Digital Policy Cooperation: Emerging Priorities and Opportunities
  • Executing Trade in Africa: Systems, Standards, and Risk
  • Critical Minerals: Technology, Geopolitics, and Global Governance

The conference will be held in collaboration with the Balsillie School of International Affairs (BSIA), the Canadian Centre for African Affairs and Policy Research (CCAAPR) and the Centre for International Defence Policy (CIDP) at Queen’s University and will be followed by a private reception hosted by The Age of Africa.

The conference will conclude with reflections on future Canada–Africa cooperation.
